Al-Mazunah Free Zone  

   In1992 the border between Yemen and Oman was demarcated and the supreme directives ordered to establish a trade zone in between at the Omani and Yemeni Border. In 1999 the administrative complex has been established in the trade zone, which consists of all the official parties involved: the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Directorate General of Custom Services, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries Wealth as well as the Public Establishment of Industrial Estates. At the early stages when the trade zone administration launched its activities, an official meetings and visits had been organized between the two countries' officials. As a result of that, the trade exchange prospered and increased. In 2005 a Royal Decree 103/2005 was promulgated  to establish Al-Mazunah Free Zone and by issuing  a regulation organizing Al-Mazunah Free Zone, a new era has begun of  rendering new exemptions and incentives like customs and taxes exemptions and facilities of entering the free zone and other more and more.             

 

To attract foreign investments, the Sultanate of Oman offers a package of exemptions and incentives specific to Al Mazyunah Free Zone as follows :

Exemptions:

  • Exempting the profits from the income tax for 30 years, without the need to submit the income returns.
  • Exemption from the commercial agency law.
  • Exemption from customs duties.
  • Decreasing the rate of hiring Omani manpower to 10% instead of 30%. 
  • Exemption from the condition of the minimum investment and giving the freedom to use currencies.
  • 100% ownership of the capital.

 

and Incentives: 

  • Allowing the Yemeni manpower to work without visas.
  • Approving the Yemeni customs statements concerning the goods imported from yemen.
  • Issuing the certificates of origin.
  • Granting the factories of the free zone a national certificate of origin.
  • Facilitating the process of granting residences and visas for Non-Omani investors.
  • Providing, circulating and transferring the foreign currencies and entering of capitals with easiness. 
  • Importing all goods allowed to be put into circulation in the country. 
  • Allowing the establishment of a representative office inside the Omani customs zone.
